Oscar Awards Announced

The 79th Academy Awards were announced in Los Angeles. The The Boston based crime drama "The Departed" has won the Oscar for Best Picture. Martin Scorsese was named best director for "The Departed". Forest Whitaker won the Oscar for Actor in a Leading Role for his part in the film "The Last King of Scotland.” Whitaker portrayed the dictator Idi Amin in the movie.

Helen Mirren won the Oscar for Actress in a Leading Role for her part in the film "The Queen". Veteran actor Alan Arkin, won the best supporting actor Oscar. An Inconvenient Truth, based on former US Vice President Al Gore's global warning lecture, won best documentary feature. The hit movie "Happy Feet" won best animated feature.
