22 Killed in Virginia Tech Shooting

In a ghastly incident that sent shock wave across the United States, at least 22 people were killed and 21 more injured when a gunman resorted to indiscriminate firing in a dormitory and classroom at Virginia Tech University campus. The gunman was also killed. However, it was unclear if he was shot by police or killed himself. He was identified as a Korean student.

Shooting was first reported at West Ambler Johnston Hall, a dormitory that houses around 900 students. More shots were fired in another part of the campus two hours later. Virginia Tech President Charles Steger described the incident as a monumental tragedy. Even President George Bush was horrified at the news. It was one of the worst shootings on a university campus in the United States since 1966.
