Mission Accomplished: Australia wins its Hattrick World Cup Title

The Kangaroos are unstoppable. It was proved once again when the crushed Sri Lanka by 53 runs in the final to win the World Cup for a record third time in a row. However, the marathon World Cup 07 has turned out to be a utter failure because of mismanagement, empty stands, Woolmer's death and India and Pakistan's early exit. The final also ended in high drama.

First, rain came down heavily, which delayed the start of the play. The match was cut down to 38-overs a side. Gilchrist scored 149 off 104 balls with 13 fours and 8 sixes. Australia scored 281/4 in stipulated 38 overs. Sri Lanka opened on a strong note despite losing Tharanga too early. However, they lost the momentum once Jayasuriya (63) and Sangakara (54) departed. As the rain came down again, the target was revised and Sril Lanka finally ended up at 215/8 in 36 overs. Under the D/W Lewis method, Australia won the match by 53 runs.

Adam Gilchrist has been adjudged as man of the match and Glen McGrath bagged the 'player of the tournament' award on his retirement day. It is to be recalled that it was Australia's 29th consecutive win in the World Cup so far. It's really incredible that a team has not lost a match for such a long period (spread over three world cups). Australia once again imposed their authority on World Cup and showed the world no one can match the strength and prowess.
