Mayawati Sworn in as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh
The coalition era in Uttar Pradesh finally came to an end. Mayawati was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. She is 40th Chief Minister of the state. Mayawati took the oath for the fourth time; however, this time, she formed the govt. on her own. Nineteen others also took oath as cabinet ministers and 11 as state ministers. The included Naseemuddin Siddique, Ramvir Upadhayaye, Lalji Verma, Indrajit Saroj, Sukhdev Raj, Thakur Jaiveer Singh and Swami Prasad Maurya.Mayawati’s name for the CM’s post was proposed by former minister Indrajit Saroj and seconded by BSP state chief Lalji Verma. The BSP had 206 legislators out of which 204 were present at the legislative meet. Two MLAs could not reach Lucknow on time. It is to be seen how Mayawati handles the caste equation within the party and the state.
