Latest Fashion Trend: Animals at Stake
Nowadays the animal-skinned accessories fashion is striding upwards and its demand is soaring, mainly in Europe and America. A very explicit example of this trend was seen in the Paris Fashion Week 2007, which showcased a wide variety of furs and skins from the top brands, which turned out to be a hit.Christian Dior put on show his collection of python and ostrich skin coats, which also was ornamented with fox sleeves. Calvin Klein's spring collection featured alligator jackets and Celine left everyone mesmerized by walking on the ramp in a white python skirt suit. Other hits were Jimmy Choo’s snakeskin sandals and Ferragamo’s collection of alligator footwear. Nike launched the saltwater crocodile shoe at its 25th anniversary on sale at its stores.
Legendary designer Roberto Cavalli, a supporter of this trend, said "I love to use reptile skins because it excites me to take a material that is seen as 'wild' and mix it with a look that shouts glamour and sophistication. Exotic skin - alligator, crocodile and snake - also gives the impression of being super luxurious and expensive, a look women are into at the moment."
It is really sad to know that even though today when the eco-friendly and animal-friendly fashion is available, people are crazy for these animal skin made items, which still has its own huge market and is in demand even today.
Conservationists are really worried by this trend. One hundred and seventy one member countries of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) held a 12-day conference in Holland to find out a way to deal with this problem.
The animals that are used for such commodities are usually skinned alive to protect their skin and for an animal like crocodile it takes more than two hours to die after its skin is ripped.
According to Yvonne Taylor, a PETA campaigner, "In today's market where status accessories are everything, there is a growing niche of wealthy customers willing to pay up to £15,000 for a single bag. Many breeds of crocodile, alligator and other reptiles have been hunted to the brink of extinction. Sickeningly, the rarer they become as a result of poaching, the more desirable they are. The knock-on effect is terrifying."
Should such a fashion trend be encouraged that warrants animal killing for consumerism???????

If someone wants to wear an animal skin they should find a person wearing one, walk up and club them over the head and take the skin they are wearing. That's how they got it.
Ugh! How disgusting! How can such barbarity even be legal? How can these people who wear this stuff live with their consciences?
It's just sad. One day they will be all gone.
Man never ceases to amaze me.
He kills everything he comes across.
I think it's up to the women to take a stand and not buy these ridiculous items.
and that's what they are fashion accessories which go out of date.
next year what will it be -people skins?
Skinned alive? This is certainly cruelty to animals. Don't these animals have rights? If a dog or cat or any pet is mistreated, the owner can be punished, usually by having their pet taken away. If an owner had a pet snake and skinned it alive, the same would be true. Doesn't the law prevent cruelty to wild animals? If not, they should. Otherwise, it is indeed up to women (or men) to refuse to buy these items. Who cares if it screams out that you're rich, it also screams out that you are cruel.
People should have to watch a video of an animal being skinned alive - if they want to wear fur after that then they really are pathetic and sick. The designers who use skins and fur should be drawn and quartered themselves. Anything to make a buck. It should be outlawed. Now ivory is back in vogue - in Chad the new thing is poachers using machine guns to kill large herds of elephants and then hacking their faces off with axes to get their tusks - whether they are dead or not! What a wonderful world we live in.

:((( those poor crocodiles! 2 hours of pain and suffering, such a shame that animals need to be used to please the plastic people. Designers who endorse reptile skin should be killed and have their skin used on their latest line! Christian Dior skin, wonder how much that would make :)
Its bullshit. How authority can allow a fashion show on this kind of animal stuff.
