News At A Glance: 02 July 2007

1) Gandhi's Letter: Indian government finally managed to score a point when it pursuaded London-based auction house Christie's to withdraw Gandhi's letter from auction. The owner of the letter is in touch with the Indian Government so that it can be brought to India.

2) Dilip Sardesai Dies: Former test cricketer, Dilip Sardesai died of multiple organ failure. He was 67. He played 30 test matches for India and scored 2001 runs with two double centuries.

3) President Poll: After scrutinizing all the nomination papers, the Election Commission found only Pratibha Patil and BS Shekhawat's papers valid. Nomination papers of remaining 39 candidates were rejected.

4) Security for Team India: In the wake of recent terrorist alert in UK, security for the Indian Cricket team has been beefed up. India and Pakistan will clash tomorrow in an ODI match.

5) NDA approaches EC on Pratibha: BJP-led NDA requested the Election Commission to make sure that UPA-Left Presidential nominee Pratibha Patil discloses her assets in an affidavit before the EC.

6) SC on Pratibha's Candidature: The Supreme Court will hear a petition seeking to cancel the nomination papers of Pratibha Patil as a Presidential candidate.
