News At A Glance: 06 July 2007
1) Attack on Musharraf: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's stand-off with the radicals in the country, took a new turn when his Aircraft was attacked by a rocket from a house in Rawalpindi. Fortunately, Mushrarraf escaped unhurt, as the rocket missed the target. The military officials have denied it saying that Mushrraf's plane had crossed the place much earlier.2) Lal Masjid Stand-off: The clash between the security forces and the radicals holed up inside Lal Masjid continues. According to reports, the militants are preventing the students from surrendering before the authorities.
3) PM takes on BJP: PM Manmohan Singh broke his silence and criticized BJP leader LK Advani for calling him a "weak PM". He also took a swipe at BS Shekhawat for trying to hide his links with the BJP, while contesting for the President post.
4) BSE Sensex touches 15,000: The BSE Sensex created history when it touched a new high of 15,000. It's to be seen how long the bullish run will continue.
5) Blueline Permit cancelled in Delhi: In a significant decision, the Delhi government cancelled the permit of 600 Blueline buses in the capital. It also asked the transport ministry to launch 2,000 more DTC buses in the metro city.
6) Hannah foster Case: The Delhi High Court has cleared the way for the extradition of Maninder Paul Kohli, a man suspected of killing Hampshire teenager Hannah Foster, more than four years after her murder in her home town of Southampton. He will be tried in UK of the charges of rape and murder.
7) Suraj Dies: After being stuck in a 180-feet borewell in Nimeda, Rajasthan for more than 50 hours, six-year old Suraj finally was taken out. However, he failed to survive. The army took out the entire borewell shaft and cut it to rescue the trapped boy. He was immediately rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead. The State Government announced a compensation of Rs. 2 Lakh for his family.
