Attack on the House of Karunanidhi's Daughter

Tamil Nadu CM and DMK Chief M Karunanidhi's remarks on Lord Ram and Ram Setu sparked off protests across the country and gave a new lease of life to BJP. In a latest development, around 5o activists of the Bajrang Dal and VHP attacked the Bangalore house of Tamizh Selvi, daughter of M. Karunanidhi. Ms. Selvi and her husband were not in the house at the time of attack.

All major political parties have condemned the incident. However, they also criticized Karunanidhi for her unwarranted remarks on Lord Ram at a time when the Congress-led UPA Government is doing a damage control exercise for its goof-up on the Ram Setu affidavit. The BJP has demanded Karunanidhi's removal for his offensive remarks against Lord Ram, who is worshipped by millions of Hindus across the globe.

At a public meeting at Erode, Karunanidhi maintained that Ram was an imaginary character and Ram Setu was not man made. He said, "some say there was a person over 17 lakh years ago. His name was Ram. Do not touch the bridge (Ram Setu) constructed by him. Who is this Ram? From which engineering college did he graduate? Is there any proof for this?"

A quo warranto petition, seeking removal of M Karunanidhi from the chief ministership for his remarks against Lord Ram, has been filed in the Madras High Court. In another unfortunate incident, a Tamil Nadu state bus was burnt by the miscreants, killing two of the 26 passengers on board. the incident occured on the Karnataka - Tamil Nadu Highway.
