12 People killed in Gujarat Stampede

At least 12 devotees were killed on a narrow path leading to the temple of Goddess Mahakali in Panchmahal district in Gujarat. The casualties have been attributed to the stampede because of the narrow path. Many people fell into the gorge below. The temple is located on the top of Pavagadh hill.

At least 8 others have been injured. The police and administration have begun rescue operations. All the injured have been admitted to the hospital. The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the kin of the deceased. Around one lakh devotees were present in the temple on the third day of Navaratri.
