Blueline Menace in Delhi: 8 Killed

At least 8 people were killed and 9 more injured when an overspeeding blueline bus plying on Route No 460 - from Minto Road to Badarpur - mowed down people standing at the bus stop. The victims included 5 women and 2 children. The incident occurred at Alipur Crossing near Apollo Hospital. The driver of the bus - found in an inebriated condition - was arrested immediately.

The State Government has decided to take all blueline buses off Delhi's roads soon. It was announced by Delhi's Transport Minister Haroon Yousuf. The government also announced an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 1 lakh each for the kin of the dead. Adequate compensation will also be given to the injured. At least 90 people have been killed by the blueline buses in Delhi this year.
