Bobby Jindal wins Governor's Race in Louisiana

Bobby Jindal, a 36-year old Republican Congressman, won the governor's election in Louisiana. Bobby had lost the election 4 years ago. He became the first Indian-American governor of any state in the United States. Jindal took 54% of the votes polled in the election. Jindal was always seen as an ambitious young politician.

He was appointed head of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, at the age of 24. Two years later, Jindal served in the Bush Administration as an assistant secretary in the Department of Health and Human Services. Although he fought the governor election in 2003, he lost to current Democratic governor Kathleen Blanco by just 4 percent votes. Jindal's win sparked off celebrations in India including his native village in Punjab.
