Kumaraswamy resigns as CM of Karnataka

Karnataka CM H D Kumaraswamy resigned after Governor Rameshwar Thakur did not allow him to go for a floor test, citing he did not have the requisite number of MLAs to do so. The message from the governor was loud and clear and Kumaraswamy had no other option but to put his papers in.

After the betrayal of JD(S) on the power transfer issue, BJP had withdrawn support to the JD(S) government. It was speculated that Congress might come to the rescue of a beleaguered CM. However, that did not happen. The Congress ruled out support to the JD(S) government and went to the extent of demanding the ouster of the minority government. According to sources, the governor had already recommended President Rule in the state.
