Musharraf sweeps Presidential Polls

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf won the controversial election by a huge margin. He almost swept the polls with 252 - 2 votes. About 200 opposition members had resigned from the national and provincial assemblies a few days ago. Benazir Bhutto's party did not participate in the election. According to the CEC, out of the total 257 valid votes, Musharraf got 252, while his opponent former Supreme Court judge Wajihuddin Ahmed got 2 votes.

Although Musharraf won hands down, formal notification of the results will be made only after the Supreme Court completes hearing of the case pending against him. The court is hearing petitions challenging Musharraf's candidacy, as he is still the Army Chief. It was the most controversial election in Pakistan with all opposition members in the national and provincial assemblies staying away from it.
