President's Rule imposed in Karnataka
The Union Cabinet accepted the Governor's recommendation on the imposition of President's Rule in Karnataka. Karnataka governor Rameshwar Thakur had sent in his recommendation for the President's Rule after Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy sent in his resignation yesterday. Kumaraswamy government was reduced to minority after BJP withdrew support to it following its refusal to hand over the power as per the power-sharing agreement.Once the governor's recommendation was received, the core group of the Congress party met at PM Manmohan Singh's residence to discuss the prevailing situation in the state. Besides PM Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, senior cabinet ministers Pranab Mukherjee, Arjun Singh, A.K. Antony, H.R. Bhardwaj, National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan and Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta attended the meeting.
