Kamlesh Sharma is new Commonwealth Secretary General
India's High Commissioner to the UK, Kamlesh Sharma has been unanimously chosen as the new Commonwealth Secretary General. He became the first Indian to hold the top post. currently, Commonwealth has 53 counties under its fold. Sharma won the race against Malta's Foreign Minister Michael Frendo and Commonwealth Business Council Chairman Mohan Kaul.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has expressed his happiness over Kamlesh Sharma's elevation to the top job in Commonwealth. Sharma has a long record of public service in the international community. He will take up his new job on 01 April 2008.
