West Bengal comes to a Halt over Nandigram
Normal live came to a standstill due to the "West Bengal Bandh" called by opposition parties over the Nandigram issue. Bandh supporters blocked vehicular traffic and train movement in different parts of the state. The "Bandh" was called by Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, BJP, Congress and SUCI. According to sources, a state bus was torched near Moulali in central Kolkata.Normal traffic came to a grinding halt and most shops and markets were closed. Passengers were left stranded at the Howrah and Sealdah railway stations. Additional security forces have been deployed in many parts of Kolkata. While Trinamool Congress has called an indefinite bandh, Congress and CPI (ML) will observe a 24-hour bandh. BJP and SUCI have given the bandh call for 48 hours.
It seems that people of West Bengal would pay a heavy price for the autocratic rule of CPI(M)-led Left Government. However, other left parties have distanced themselves from the CPM wrongdoing at Nandigram.
