Why Terrorists targeted UP Lawyers?
The entire legal fraternity in the country was shocked when the terrorists targeted lawyers and courts in Uttar Pradesh. According to latest reports, out of 18 dead, 14 people were killed in Varanasi, while 4 people were killed in Faizabad. At least two live bombs were defused in Lucknow and Varanasi. Here the question arises, why the terrorists targeted the lawyers this time?If we can recall, five militants were arrested in connection with the July 2005 attack on the Ram Janambhoomi complex at Ayodhya. When their case came up at the Faizabad Court, they failed to secure a lawyer, as the Faizabad Bar Association had barred the lawyers to represent them. Eventually, the case had to be transferred to Ghaziabad.
Also, when 4 terrorists were arrested in Lucknow last week in connection with the possible attack on Rahul Gandhi, no lawyer agreed to represent their case in the court. They even roughed up of the three arrested JeM militants inside the court premises. That was enough to anger the terrorists.
Since the lawyers have made it clear they would no longer take the case of deadly terrorists who indulge in subversive activities in the country, the latest attack was planned to dent their morale and teach them a lesson. Now it's the responsibility of the government to provide adequate security to the lawyers across the country in order to avoid any further attack on their life.
