CC TV Footage of Woolmer with Two Suspected People

The Woolmer murder case took an interesting turn when the BBC released the CC TV footage taken just minutes before Woolmer's death. Woolmer was seen arguing with two people in the hotel lobby. BBC investigation claimed that Woolmer was given a powerful poison before being strangled. It was deliberately done to weaken him.

According to the last CCTV footage, Woolmer stood at some distance from two men and pointed his right hand at one of them. One man is dressed in a white shirt and black trousers and the other is in a black dress. Some sources say that the murder had a definite link to Match fixing and betting racket, while some other sources link the murder to the radical Muslim community in Pakistan that was not happy with Woolmer's handling of Pakistan cricket. The mystery still remains.

Gujarat Govt. to SC: Kausar Bi Killed, Burnt by the Police

In a startling revelation before the Supreme Court, the Gujarat government admitted that Kausar Bi was killed and burnt just few days after her husband Sohrabuddin Sheikh was killed in a fake encounter by Gujarat police. The government counsel submitted the action taken report on the investigation carried by the Gujarat Government in a sealed cover.

The truth came out after the interrogation of the three IPS officials arrested in connection with the case. The government is trying to locate Kausar Bi's remains. It can be recalled that Sohrabuddin was killed in an encounter in November 2005. At that time the police claimed that he was planning to assassinate Gujarat CM Narendra Modi. However, only last month, the state government had admitted in the Supreme Court that it was a fake encounter.

Three IPS officers including the former chief of the ATS D G Vanjara were arrested and are being interrogated by the CID. The CID had seized two vehicles - a Toyota Qualis and a towing crane - that were suspected to have been used in the killing of Sohrabuddin and Kausar Bi.

Mission Accomplished: Australia wins its Hattrick World Cup Title

The Kangaroos are unstoppable. It was proved once again when the crushed Sri Lanka by 53 runs in the final to win the World Cup for a record third time in a row. However, the marathon World Cup 07 has turned out to be a utter failure because of mismanagement, empty stands, Woolmer's death and India and Pakistan's early exit. The final also ended in high drama.

First, rain came down heavily, which delayed the start of the play. The match was cut down to 38-overs a side. Gilchrist scored 149 off 104 balls with 13 fours and 8 sixes. Australia scored 281/4 in stipulated 38 overs. Sri Lanka opened on a strong note despite losing Tharanga too early. However, they lost the momentum once Jayasuriya (63) and Sangakara (54) departed. As the rain came down again, the target was revised and Sril Lanka finally ended up at 215/8 in 36 overs. Under the D/W Lewis method, Australia won the match by 53 runs.

Adam Gilchrist has been adjudged as man of the match and Glen McGrath bagged the 'player of the tournament' award on his retirement day. It is to be recalled that it was Australia's 29th consecutive win in the World Cup so far. It's really incredible that a team has not lost a match for such a long period (spread over three world cups). Australia once again imposed their authority on World Cup and showed the world no one can match the strength and prowess.

Non-bailable Arrest Warrant against Richard Gere

In an interesting development, a lower court in Jaipur (Rajasthan) has issued non-bailable arrest warrant against Richard Gere for the controversial kissing involving Shilpa Shetty that shook the entire nation a few days back. It must be remembered that certain lawyers across the country had filed cases against Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty. However, this is the first instance of any court summon against the actors.

It was also reported that the court has restricted Shilp's movement outside India. The court has fixed May 5 as the date for presenting evidence and recording of statements in this case. The new development is all set to open diplomatic tangles for the government. The government response is not yet known.

Shilpa's lawyers refuted the claim that the court has restricted Shilpa's movement outside India. They also denied of receiving any court summons. If found guilty, both Shilpa and Gere may have to undergo six-years imprisonment.

Invincible Australia reaches the Final

Can anyone stop Australia? For the time being, it looks impossible. Kangaroos imposed their authority yet again by crushing South Africa by 7 wickets in the semi-final to reach their fourth successive World Cup final.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first. However, Australia dominated the proteas from the very first ball. The entire South African side was bowled out for 149 in 43.5 overs. Justin Kemp was the top scorer with 49 not out. McGrath destroyed the South African batting line up by taking three crucial wickets. Tait bagged four wickets.

In reply, Australia lost Gilchrist cheaply. But Hayden (41) and Clarke (60*) guided them to a 7 wicket victory with more than 18 overs to spare. Australia will not meet Sri Lanka in the final. Although Sri Lanka is expected to give a tough competition to the Kangaroos, they are on the way to win their hattrick world cup title.

New Zealand's world cup dream is finally over. The Kiwis failed to break the semi-final jinx and surrendered meekly before a spirited Sri Lankan team led by Mahela Jayawardene. Skipper Jayawardene scored a fine unbeaten century to guide Sri Lanka reach 289/5 in stipulated 50 overs. In reply, New Zealand never looked in hunt and bowled out for a paltry 208 with more than 8 overs to spare.

Earlier, Upul Tharanga's half-century gave the Lankans a steady start. However, the turning point of the match was the final 20 overs in which Sri Lanka scored 160 runs. The last 10 overs produced 102 runs. New Zealand looked shaky from the very beginning and surrendered before Murali's spin. Murali took 4 wickets. Fulton (46) was the top scorer for New Zealand. Political Drama on OBC Quota

It's an irony to see the UPA government running from pillar to post to grant 27 percent reservation to the Other Backward Community (OBC). The government suffered a deadly blow to its policy of caste-based reservation in educational institutions when the apex court rejected its plea to vacate the stay on the implementation of 27 per cent quota for OBCs in central educational institutions, including IITs and IIMs from the next academic year.

The court clearly stated that its March 29 stay on the OBCs reservation was ‘final’ for the academic year 2007-08. The Bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat observed, "You have waited for 57 years. Why can't you wait for one more year,"when the Solicitor General tried to impress upon it by arguing that the Government has increased the number of seats to ensure that the interest of general category candidates was not adversely affected. “We don’t want that we play the game first and then frame the rules. We want rules first, then the game,”stated the Bench.

In response to the judgement, the Central Government hurriedly approached the Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan for an early hearing of the case, which was slated for August. Now it will be held on 08 May.

Indian Cricket Team Selection: Old Wine in a New Bottle

Contrary to expectations, the Indian selectors did no great job while picking the test and ODI teams for Bangladesh tour. The only notable decision taken was to "rest" Sachin and Saurav for the ODI series against Bangladesh. However, they will be back for the test series. Sehwag was dropped from the test squad, however, he still managed to get a place in ODI team. There will be no vice-captain for the Bangladesh tour.

Not surprisingly, Harbhajan Singh, Ajit Agarkar and Irfan Pathan were dropped from both the test and ODI squads. However, some of the non-performers like Sehwag, Dhoni, VRV Singh and Robin Utthappa were retained in place of some potential youngsters like S. Badrinath, Ranadeb Bose, Ishant Sharma and Rohit Sharma. Selectors recalled Piyush Chawala, Romesh Powar, RP Singh, Dinesh Mongia and Gautam Gambhir to the ODI team, while Bengal batsman Manoj Tiwary was the only new face in the team.

Left arm spinner Rajesh Pawar is the only new face in the test team. He replaced Harbhajan Singh, who has been struggling with his form for a few months. Let's wait and watch how the team fares against a spirited Bangladesh, which dashed India's hope of making it the Super 8 stage in the ongoing World Cup.

The ODI Squad: Rahul Dravid (capt), Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, M S Dhoni, Dinesh Kaarthick, Manoj Tiwari, S Sreesanth, Munaf Patel, Zaheer Khan, R P Singh, Piyush Chawla, Ramesh Pawar, Dinesh Mongia.

The Test Squad: Rahul Dravid (capt), Wasim Jaffer, Sachin Tendulkar, V V S Laxman, M S Dhoni, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, Dinesh Kaarthick, S Sreesanth, Zaheer Khan, V R V Singh, Munaf Patel, Anil Kumble, Ramesh Powar, Rajesh Pawar.

Richard Gere in "Kiss" Controversy with Shilpa Shetty

The function (Seena Taan Ke) was organized by the Truckers Corporation of India Foundation (India's largest surface transport organisation). Place: New Delhi, the Capital of India. The purpose was to reduce unsafe sexual practices among the trucking community. But it became the top news for different reasons.

In a shocking development, Hollywood Actor Richard Gere hugged bollywood hearthrob Shilpa Sheety tightly and kissed her several times in an urthorox manner, which did not go well with Indian public.

It's not sure whether Gere knew about the Indian culture or not. However, he must knowto respect a women in a public place. His unwanted gesture is highly condemnable. There have been protests all over India over Gere's obscene gesture and many organizations have demanded a public apology from him. Although Shilpa looked shaky and surprised after being kissed by Gere, she did not issue any public statements so far. The isssue is expected to snowball further if Gere does not apologize with immediate effect.

We Divided Pakistan - Rahul Gandhi

In a shocking development, Rahul Gandhi showed his amateurism and inexperience in Indian politics, when he proudly announced that his family divided Pakistan. Rahul's statement not only created a political storm in India, but also it gave Pakistan a shot in arms to accuse India of playing subversive activities on its soil.

Although the 1971 Bangladesh war was wide open and everyone knew who was involved, India never admitted openly that it divided Pakistan. India always maintained that it just supported the "freedom fighters".

Rahul made this unprecedented remark while campaigning in Bareilly. This is the second time he made such a controversial remark. It can be recalled that he made a similar remark on the Babri demolition a few days back. It clearly shows his arrogance and monarchic attitude, as he gives the credit for India's growth to Gandhi family, not to the Congress Party.

It is an irony that the sycophants in Congress support and defend everything Rahul and Gandhi family say and do. The whole episode again proved that Congress is unable to survive without the "Gandhi" tag.

Agni III Test Fired Successfully

A new dimension to India's missile programme. Agni-III, the nuclear-capable missile was test-fired from the Interim Test Range (ITR) at the Wheeler's Island in the Bay of Bengal off Orissa Coast. It is to be recalled the earlier launch of the missile in July 2006 was a failure with the missile going into flame within seconds of its test-fire. This time, it was a great success for the Indian scientists who worked hard to rectify all the faults associated with the previous launch.

Agni-III is a 4,000-km intermediate range ballistic missile with nuclear capacity. It supports a wide range of warheads, conventional and nuclear, with a payload ranging from 600 to 1,800 kilograms (1,320 to 3,960 pounds) including decoys and other anti-ballistic counter-measures. Some big cities such as Shanghai and Beijing come under the range of Agni-III, which is likely to strengthen India's power in Asia.

BCCI Meeting: Post Mortem of Indian Cricket Begins

There is one event that is being watched by more than a billion people and the media fraternity across the globe. Yes, we are talking about the BCCI meeting that began today in Mumbai. The postmortem of the Indian cricket is being done by the leading cricket experts and officials. The meeting began with the entry of Greg Chappell who formally resigned and submitted his report on India's world cup debacle. Interestingly, he did not blame any individual and partly owned up responsibility for the failure. He also gave some important suggestions to the BCCI to revive Indian cricket.

BCCI President Sharad Pawar was in full praise for Greg Chappell and hailed him for his professional approach and dedication towards the game of cricket. BCCI sources said that Pawar and some others are in favor of giving an extension to Chappell. After Chappell left the meeting, Rahul Dravid gave his version and owned up the responsibility for India's poor showing in the world cup. He also gave some suggestions to the BCCI on improving the team's performance and sought additional powers for the skipper.

The much-awaited report of the manager Sanjay Jagdale turned out to be big hollow when he just put the blame on the batsmen for India's poor showing. Even a third grade student could have done that. It seems that he watered down the report under pressure from some quarters. Some former Indian skippers attended the meeting and gave some interesting suggestions to the BCCI.

Some important decisions that have been reportedly made in the BCCI meeting:
  • Chappell will be the consultant of the National Cricket Academy and will help search and groom the young talents in the country
