Health Ministry confirms Bird Flu in West Bengal
Breaking News! The Union Health Ministry has confirmed Bird Flu cases in West Bengal. At least two districts in West Bengal - South Dinajpur and Birbhum are affected by the disease. The authorities have termed the incident as a local occurrence, not as outbreak.The West Bengal government had sent samples of dead birds to Bhopal, where they were tested positive for H5N1 virus. It is reported that more than 100,000 poultry birds have been affected across West Bengal. More than 18,000 birds have been died so far. An alert has been issued in West Bengal and its neighboring states such as Orissa and Jharkhand.
According to the West Bengal government, 60 response teams are ready to execute action plan. The culling operations are expected to begin soon.
