Indian Davis Cup Team revolt against Leander Paes

India's Davis Cup team revolted against captain Leander Paes and wanted him to be sacked for undermining team spirit. The controversy erupted, when Paes did not field Prakash Amritraj for the opening singles against Uzbekistan. All India Tennis Association (AITA) Secretary Anil Khanna confirmed that he had received a signed letter from four players, including Mahesh Bhupathi.

Paes had accused Prakash Amritraj of lacking commitment, saying a stomach ailment before the tie was down to Amritraj's decision to attend a late party. Amritraj was not fielded despite insisting that he was fit to play. Finally, it was Prakash Amritraj, who won the decisive reverse singles match.

The four players who signed the letter were Mahesh Bhupathi, Prakash Amritraj, Rohan Bopanna and Karan Rastogi. They said they had lost confidence in Paes. The latest development would mar India's medal prospects in Beijing Olympics, as Leander and Mahesh had agreed to play together in the doubles tie for the last time.
