Does India need a Dictator?
--By P. Neelakantha AcharyDoes India need a dictator? This question looks simple, but too difficult to answer. India is one of the greatest democracies in the world and the word 'dictator' is losing its ground day by day. The elections in Pakistan have brought a set back for Musharraf, the dictator president. Another era of dictatorship of Fidel Castro comes to an end after his stepping down. Dictator Saddam Hussein is no longer to rule. So, what's the message we get here?
The growth and stability of a nation is closely related to its foreign policy, and management of internal problems like poverty, employment, economic development. The global economy is flexible today because of best foreign policies of countries across the world. In a pragmatic view, India is good at maintaining its foreign policy with the US, China and Russia. This foreign policy would no longer remain best if the nation is headed by a dictator.
Dictatorship in India might cause unrest and conflict and that will lead to destruction, as evident from world history. The dictators like - Vladimir Lenin, Mussolini, Stalin, Hitler and others caused destruction and unrest.
From Indian perspective, the dictatorship could be a curse for its developing path. However, the national epidemics like – political corruption, underdevelopment, poverty, clash over domicile etc will stay remain even in a dictator's regime.
India is a vast country and known for unity in diversity, and one dictator would not be able address the problems that arise in different parts of the country. The bottom line is that dictatorship is not always a negative aspect for the nations but, it can't be termed as a positive step in the era of globalization.

You gave some really strong points to oppose the idea of dictatorship in India. But I would like to differ a bit.
In today's scenario, the Indian politics is in complete turmoil. The people who have been appointed by the citizens to serve them, have been seen serving themselves. On papers, India indeed is progressing, but in the light of reality, every citizen of India is well aware of the circumstances here. It wont be very wrong if one says that democracy is dying in India, it has proved to be a failure!
We, the Indians dont actually understand the value of freedom. We would had done so if we actually fought to get it, but we received independence as a gift, probably because the rulers understood that there was nothing left in India to be exploited. This is why we dont value the freedom we possess!
The country for sure needs a dictator. One who can make us realize the true value of freedom. One who can make India to start back from the basics. One who ammends the constitution to fit the requirement of the current era.
hi amit u might be right but think for once if d dictatorship starts again just to realize one the value of freedom.AS its a gift from our elders,so v should keep it as a gift.if dictatorship starts again then we will be the person who will left behind. there will be full stop in our growth, there will be the growth of the person who is the dictator only n to whom he\she might want to survive bcoz i todays life every person is selfish so u cant trust anybody .
i think a good benevolent dictator could lead india to its glory!
we indians should try something diffferent today.the world is looking at us as a develop(ing)country, why??.why cant be a developed one?its all because of the presently existing political parties. What yaar we are still living in a dictatorship kind of govt. no one's having powers in their own hand, whenever goin to a govt. office they say 'mein kuch nahin kar sakta mere uppar bahut log baite hai!'.is this a democratic INDIA .so people i tell you its all because of the dirty politics and irresponsible citizens our country is suffering.Let me tell u guys im just a student of 11th class and i tavel by bus everyday to my college and i get suprised to see kind hearted people to see in buses.S O MY DEAR FRIENDS JAGOO AUR APNE MAN KE BHITAR JA KAR PUCHO KI 1 SAHI NETA KAUN HO SAKTA HAI!and if you people of india had liked this article then surely i would try politics once in my life.

hi friends....
i also disagree with the view that there India shud b in hands of a dictator. like we know various sagas of destructions caused by dictators. as one of my frnds wrote something about voting rights. every 1 know that in today's world every politician has just become a chaiser of vote bank, public does not matter to them at all. as recently we cud find bomb blast in ahemdabad, delhi etc. but still, it is the power of people to vote and choose the political players. if all the power will be in one hand, then for short time it may prove helpful, but in a long run it is going to prove a nightmare for our country. and this will be ultimately decided after actually seeing or by living in the regime of the dictator that a dictator shud b there or not......
