Government unhappy over IIM-A Fee Hike
The Union Human Resource Development Ministry has expressed its dissatisfaction over the sudden hike in the IIM-A fee hike. Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad on Saturday announced a hike in its fee structure. It raised the fee from the present Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5.5 lakh for the first year and from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs 6 lakh for the second year of the two year post graduate programme in management.The Union HRD said the increase should be in stages. According to sources, the Ministry is likely to discuss the matter over the next few days. The fee hike would be applicable to students joining the two-year course in June this year. IIM-A said it would continue to support eligible students from the economically backward sections.
Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B) had already hiked its fees from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs four lakh for the year 2008-09. Similarly, Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode the fee to Rs 3 lakh each for both first and second year for the batch joining in June 2008. Other B Schools in India have also decided to hike their fees in the range of 50 - 100 percent from 2008, putting more pressure on the students and their parents.
