Musharraf rejects Sarabjit's appeal, Death Warrant to be issued soon
Even as the people celebrate the release of Indian prisoner Kashmir Singh from Pakistan jail,President Pervez Musharraf turned down to mercy appeal made by Sarabjit Singh, another Indian prisoner, who has been languishing in Pakistan prison for 18 years. Sarabjit was arrested in 1990 and was later sentenced to death by Lahore High Court on charges of involvement in several bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan. He was termed as an agent of RAW (Research and Analysis Wing).Pakistan's Supreme Court had upheld his death sentence in 2006. However, Sarabjit had filed another mercy petition to the President. Even PM Manmohan Singh, other dignitaries and Indian media had taken up Sarabjit's case with the Pakistan government. According to government sources, Sarabjit's mercy petition was rejected, as all charges against him were proved beyond doubt. The 'death warrant' for Sarabjit could be issued at anytime.
