Scarlett Murder Case becomes Murkier

--By Sagar Satapathy, Editor-in-Chief

The rape and murder of 15-year old British teenager Scarlett Keeling left her mother Fiona and other family members in complete shock and despair. But the Goa government and police hardly bother. First, the police tried to 'cover up' Scarlett's death as a drowning case. When her mother went to the media with her daughter's last pictures, the pressure up on the police and they had to carry out a second autopsy, which confirmed that Scarlett was murdered.

No action was taken against the policemen who were guilty of 'cover up'. The Hindustan Times reports that Scarlett's original autopsy report was 'doctored'. The paper quoted a doctor, who was in charge of autopsy. Instead taking action against the guilty policemen and killers, the Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat went on to blame Scarlett's mother Fiona MacKeown for her negligence. He even ordered the police to interrogate Fiona. This is really shocking.

The Chief Minister dismissed the demand for a CBI probe, saying Goa police would resolve the case in two days. Remember, it was the same police that tried to turn the murder into an accident. When a state minister said that he had no trust in the police, why the CM is hesitant to order a CBI inquiry.

There is a definite attempt to malign Scarlett and her family, even as they are victims. The police is not looking into various aspects of the case including Scarlett's age, her drugs habits, her social behaviour etc. etc. It seems that Goan police is pursuing a vendetta against Fiona MacKeown, as she exposed the 'cover up'. It would be no surprise if eventually Scarlett herself is blamed for the gruesome rape and murder and her mother is jailed for 'negligence' in bringing up her daughter. It happens in Goa....

As a European lady who has travelled to India I can firmly advise that no European or North American traveller go there. We need to boycott travel to that country. It seems to be a land full of hostile, ugly hindu men that are pedophiles and rapists. specially the states of Rajasthan and Goa are very very dangerous!
I was personally assaulted when I went there and had to cut my trip short and flew back to Europe.

I have to agree. Indian mentality is such that women are the target of men. Men are in power and escape all critisim, wheras a lady is called to be characterless. Women seeking police intervention are molested, raped by the police officers. Not a safe country to visit. Delhi is the crime capital and corruption is at its heights. The criminals rule the nation.

Drive in Delhi? or any part of the country. Cops will stop you, take a few rupees and the money goes into thier pocket. It doesn';t stop here, this money travels to the commisioners and ministers. The quota is fixed for all illegal operations. The juniors officers follow command. If they don't they are given harsh duties by seniors. The problem that has been created by the criminal elements in police, politics. Decent Indians find it hard to breathe in that country and leave the nation and immigrate. Remember the case of a corrupt senior police officer J K Sharma. He was caught amassing wealth, that he could not have earned. His father was a poor clerk. But this IPS corrupt police officer after suspension was placed back by the corrupt politicians and now is a senior commisioner. His links to politicans tells that they save his job to save themsleves. He was also involved in kidnapping of a girl and forcefully keeping her in the US The case went to the supreme court, but as the matter was subjected to the US soil, he could not be charged.

The best Indians can do implicate the mother and force her to shut up! No European or American should visit this country. Better safe then sorry.

Guys! Stop India-bashing. I agree that there are some mischievous elements who indulge in such crime. But you can't blame the whole community. India has a population of more than 1.3 billion. Do you consider everyone insane?

I have visited India 4 times in 6 years. And, I must admit that they are very hospitable and caring. Barring a few lewd looks, I was not subjected to any harassment.

Since Indians consider foreigners superior, they always want close contact with them. That sometimes lead to such sexual advances. But it happens in every part of the world. Millions of foreigners visit India every year. We can't put the country under scanner only for a few one-off incidents.

It's essential for us to be on alert while visiting any foreign country, not alone India.

If you are visiting a developing/underdeveloped country, do it on your own risk. Don't interact with unknown people, don't mixx with them, don't allow them to make advances on you. If you take drugs with them and go on latenight parties, only you will have to blame yourself if some untoward incident happens.

1) Oh PLEASE! Its not a few handful of stories. Did you hear about the 32 yr old British woman who was raped by a motorcyclist? Did you hear about the Russian girl that was raped in India Goa and then when she went to the police they assaulted her as well?
I've travelled a lot been to Egypt, Israel, Thailand, other parts of the globe... Nowhere were the men as deparate as they were in India and no where else would you expect to be raped or killed BUT INDIA!

2) Another reason is that Female infanticide is very predominant in India and that is shaking up the male to female ratio. Females' parents have to pay DOWRY in Hindu culture. And that is why a lot of parents get their ultrasound and if its a girl they get an abortion!!!!!!! pathetic but true!!!
On a very low estimate about 300,000 female infanticide/abortions took place in 2007 alone!

India is not the same as other countries, atrocities including rape are commited by the 15 percent of the population who are higher cast, Brahmins, against the 85 percent of lower cast is an everyday occurance in India.

Brahmins also consider foreigners lower cast.
