Supreme Court orders fresh probe in 10 Gujarat Riot cases

The Supreme Court has asked the Gujarat government to re-investigate into 10 major cases related to Gujarat riots in 2002. The court also asked the government to form a five-member Special Investigative Team (SIT). The court has directed that SIT submit its report within three months. All the witnesses would be re-examined if necessary.

The five-member SIT team will comprise of three Gujarat police officers Gita Johri, Sivananad Jha and Ashish Bhatia, retired CBI director R K Raghavan and former DGP C B Satpathy.

The cases that would come under scanner again are Godhra riots that claimed 81 lives, Gulbarga Society case that claimed 68 lives, Naroda Patia case that claimed over 100 lives, Sardarpur case that claimed 34 lives and Best Bakery case that claimed 14 lives.
