1) Tamil Nadu puts Hogenakkal Project on HoldTamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has put the Hogenkkal drinking water project on hold until the elections in Karnataka are over. The move came in the wake of widespread violence in Karnataka over the issue. Hogenakkal project is being built by Tamil Nadu on the Cauvery river, but Karnataka is opposed to it. There have been attacks on Theatres running Tamil fims and other Tamil establishments in Bangalore.
2) Sachin Tendulkar ruled out for Kanpur Test
The beleaguered Indian team suffered another blow, when Sachin Tendulkar was ruled out of the crucial third test match to be played at Kanpur. Sachin is suffering from a groin injury. India, on the verge of a humiliating defeat at Ahmedabad, look fragile in each department. The Indian bowling attack has become toothless in the absence of Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma.
3) Burney: Sarabjit could be a case of mistaken identity
In an interesting development, Pakistan's leading Human Rights activist Ansar Burney told the media persons that Sarabjit Singh could "prima facie" be a case of mistaken identity. The latest development revived the hope for Sarabjit Singh, who is facing death sentence in Pakistan on the charges of spying. He has already spent 17 years in jail.
4) India becomes a hot destination for Health Tourism
According to a latest report of Planning Commission, India has become a hot destination for Health Tourism over the past few years. Most of the medical tourists come from the US and Britain. 5) Eight Tibetans killed in Police Firing
At least eight Tibetan protesters were killed and several others injured, when the Chinese police fired on hundreds of protesters in Sichuan province near Tibet. The state-owned Xinhua reported that there was a riot, but did not confirm the killing. Further details are awaited.
