India win the Kanpur Test to level the Series 1-1 with South Africa

India had to rely on its spinners to salvage its lost pride. Although the spinners did the trick on a cracking Kanpur wicket, Indian batsmen too applied themselves on a 'not-so-easy' pitch to bat on. Ganguly led the way with a brilliant knock of 87 in the first innings. He was the top scorer of the match.

In reply to South Africa's 265, India scored 325 in the first innings, thus taking a crucial lead of 60 runs. South African batsmen failed in the second innings and bundled out for 121 only. India needed 62 to win the match and they made it in 13.1 overs, by losing 2 wickets. India won the match by 8 wickets within three days and levelled the series 1-1. While Ganguly was declared "Man of the Match", Harbhajan Singh got the "Man of the Series" award - a Tata Sumo Grand.
