Aid fails to reach Cyclone Victims in Myanmar
In a shocking display of apathy to the plight of its own people, the Military Junta in Myanmar, refused permission to the UN Aid workers who intended to help the cyclone-hit victims in that country. According to reports, more than 50,000 people are feared dead and same number of people are still missing.Even as the United Nations, USA and other countries have come out to help out the victims, the Military Junta is not listening, as it sees foreign involvement as a potential threat to its autocratic rule.
The Junta ignored pleas to focus on delivering food supplies to 1.5 million cyclone victims who are facing disease and hunger. Instead, they held a vote on a new constitution. They not only rejected the US help, but also delayed the delivery of food and other relief materials from the United Nations Aid agencies.
