Biranchi's killer Raja Acharya surrenders in Goa

Gangster Raja Acharya, the prime accused in the sensational Biranchi Das murder case, surrendered before the Goa police in Panji. Raja Acharya walked into the Panaji police station at 2.30 pm and surrendered before the state police. Ironically, the Goa police were unaware of Raja's movement. Raja Acharya was immediately taken into custody. He will be brought back to Bhubaneswar soon by a special team of Bhubaneswar police.

The Orissa police claimed that Raja was arrested by Goa police on the basis of inputs provided by them. Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner B K Behera said that Raja was tracked down from his mobile number. The electronic surveillance signals confirmed that he was located somewhere in North Goa.

Some reports suggest that Orissa police persuaded Raja to surrender before the Goa police and he agreed to it. The Goa control room was immediately informed about Raja's willingness to surrender and necessary arrangements were made in this regard. However, Orissa Police maintained that Raja Acharya was arrested (not surrendered) by the Goa police after they provided information about his whereabouts.

Raja Acharya would be produced before a magistrate in Goa tomorrow to get the remand. From all circumstantial evidences, the police has almost reached the conclusion it was Raja Acharya, who killed Biranchi Das in his Judo hall on April 13, 2008. He has been absconding since then. The police believe that Biranchi may have been killed by Raja, as he reportedly mediated between him and model Leslie Tripathi. Raja was obsessed with Leslie and wanted to marry her, but she repeatedly refused his offer.
