Home Minister Patil draws flak for equating Afzal Guru and Sarabjit Singh
In a shocking development, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil tried to draw a comparison between Afzal Guru and Sarabjit Singh. He wondered how can we expect a pardon for Sarabjit when we demand the hanging of Afzal Guru, who is the prime accused in the attack on Parliament. Mr. Shivraj Patil clearly hinted that UPA government was not keen on hanging Afzal Guru and thus delaying the matter. "If you are asking for Afzal's hanging then how can you ask pardon for Sarabjit? What are you doing?", asked Mr. Shivraj Patil. He even said that POTA wasn't necessary.Shivraj Patil forgot that Sarabjit Singh is lounging in a Pakistan jail for mistaken identity, but Afzal Guru was found guilty for the attack on India's Parliament. Surprisingly, the Congress backed Mr. Patil, as Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi endorsed Patil's views. However, it does not go well with the BJP and common people.
BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar lashed out at the Home Minister for equating Afzal Guru and Sarabjit Singh. He wondered how Mr. Patil could see similarity between Sarabjit, who is a prisoner and Afzal Guru, who is a terrorist.
