Karnataka goes to Polls today, Congress, BJP fight it out
The battle of Karnataka begins today, as the state goes to polls amid tight security arrangements. The first phase of the polls is being held in 89 constituencies (including 28 in Bangalore). Since the support of JD(S) has been eroded to a considerable extent after its 'betrayal' with BJP, the main battle is between the Congress and BJP.The Congress, riding high on the failure of BJP-JD(S) coalition and the return of former CM S M Krishan to active politics, hope to sail through the assembly polls. However, BJP is hopeful of reviving its fortune on the slogan of "rising inflation" and "price rise".
According to the pre-poll surveys, price rise may not be an issue for the voters of Karnataka, as most of them want development and stability in the state. If the indications go right, the Congress may get a simple majority or emerge as the single largest party in the state. The BJP has already ruled out any post-poll alliance and has decided to sit in the opposition if it does not get a clear verdict.
