
The unprecedented heat wave continued to play havoc in Orissa and several states of the country. Bhubaneswar, the capital of Orissa recorded 44 degree C on May 03, 2008, while Industrial town Talcher recorded the highest temperature of 46.5 degree C. Normal life has come to a complete halt over the few days in the state. According to the Met department, the heat wave would continue for at least 3/4 days. The unofficial death toll reached 63, while government sources put it at 13.

Several parts of North and Central India are reeling under intense heat wave. Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Tamil Nadu and Delhi recorded 6 - 8 degree above the normal temperature. There is no respite for Delhites, as the mercury level rose to 42.6 degree C on Saturday. In Punjab, Amritsar recorded 44.6 degree C, while Ganganagar in Rajasthan recorded 45.2 degree C, followed by Churu (45 degree) and Jaipur (44.4 degree C).
