Lotus blooms in Karnataka, Yeddyurappa sworn-in as the Chief Minister

Thousands of BJP workers and common people cheered at the Vidhan Soudha, as BJP's B S Yeddyurappa took the oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. This is the first time BJP formed a government in South on its own. Senior BJP leaders Rajnath Singh, Venkiah Naidu, Gopinath Munde, Narendra Modi, NDA Convenor George Fernandez and the Chief Ministers of the BJP-ruled states were present at the swearing-in ceremony.

Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje could not attend the ceremony because of the ongoing Gujjar agitation in her state. BJP defied all logic, predictions and permutations and combinations to emerge as the single largest party in Karnataka assembly by winning 110 out of 224 seats. The party got a simple majority with the support of five independents. Besides the Chief Minister, 25 other ministers also took the oath.
