Noted Marathi Playwright Vijay Tendulkar passes away

Renowned Marathi Playwright Vijay Tendulkar passed away in Pune today. He was 80. Vijay Tendulkar was suffering from myasthenia gravis, a debilitating muscular disorder. He has been under medication for more than a month. Besides producing high quality literary work, he had also written several pieces for movies and television.

Tendulkar was also a political journalist and social commentator. He had won several awards including Maharashtra Gauruv Puraskar, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, National Film Award and Padma Bhushan. Some of his great literary work included Shanta! Court chalu ahe, Ghashiram Kotwal and Sakharam Binder. He also wrote the scripts for movies such as Manthan, Nishant, Akrosh and Ardh Satya. The President, PM and many other eminent personalities have condoled the death of Vijay Tendulkar.
