Rain, Hailstorm bring relief to people in Coastal Orissa, but Power Supply disrupted

People in Coastal Orissa, heaved a sigh of relief, as a sudden rain and hailstorm brought down the temperature to below normal. The hailstorm came in the afternoon with a wind speed of 50 - 100 km per hour. A large number of trees and electric poles were uprooted. Power services in the capital were badly affected. Normal traffic came to a standstill in many parts of Bhubaneswar. Several parts of the city remained without power for more than 3/4 hours.

Other places in coastal Orissa such as Cuttack, Puri, Pipli, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Kurda too witnessed rain and hailstorm. Power service was badly affected in almost all areas. However, people don't complain, as they got a huge relief from the unprecedented heat wave that claimed around 90 lives in the state so far. More rain and thundershower are likely in the next 24 - 48 hours.
