Royal Flag comes down at Nepal Palace
Nepal celebrated its first day as a Republic on Thursday by taking down the royal flag atop the Nepal Palace. King Gyanendra and his playboy son Paras remained mute spectators to their transition from Royals to common citizens. Earlier, on Wednesday, the Constituent Assembly had abolished the 240-year old Monarchy and declared Nepal as a Republic. 'Former' King Gyanendra has been give a two-week deadline to leave the Royal Palace.People celebrated with joy, as the royal flag was replaced by Nepal's national place atop the palace. Nepal, the only Hindu state in the world, has become a secular republic now. Still it seems that everything is not well within Nepal. There are many people, who still lend their tacit support to the King and a Hindu Monarchy.
