Tessy Thomas becomes the first Woman Scientist to head a Missile Project

Science and Technology have been a men's bastion for a long time, and no woman dared to break it. But the inevitable finally is going to happen. Tessy Thomas, who played a crucial role as the associate project director in the 3,500 km Agni-III missile launch last week, will head the new advanced version of the 2,500-km range Agni-II missile project. The project will be known as Agni-II-A2 and Tessy will be the project director.

Tessy Thomas is one of the 200 women scientists and technicians working for the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation). However, she is the first to head such a crucial project related to national security. Interestingly, besides Tessy, 20 other women scientists and technicians worked for the Agni-III project.
