Violent Gujjars hold the system to ransom

Violent Gujjars crossed all limits and held the entire system to ransom in various parts of the country including Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Madhya Pradesh. They made all efforts to make their 'NCR Roko' agitation successful. The common people had to suffer a lot, as the Gujjars turned morons at least for a day.

The Gujjars not only blocked all highways and roads, but also set a bus on fire near Noida Sector 49. Another bus was burnt in Panipat, Haryana. A few Gujjars tried to set buses on fire in Gurgaon, but it was prevented by the police. The police had to resort the lathicharge in Gurgaon, Gwalior, Jammu and a few other places. In Aaya Nagar, the NCR police lobbed tear gas shells to control the angry stone-pelting mob. Meanwhile, traffic has resumed in a few areas in Delhi after the authorities held talks with the Gujjar leaders.

The Vasundhara Raje government, which showed laxity and apathy in dealing with the issue, is now feeling the heat. The Chief Minister dropped 'peace pamphlets' from the helicopter in the areas where the Gujjar agitation is going on. However, the Gujjars rejected Vasundhara's appeal and burnt the pamphlets. Everywhere else in the country, the Gujjars burnt the effigies of Vasundhara Raje Scindia. The Congress hasn't yet taken a definite stand, as it sees major gains in the coming elections, if a negative public opinion is built against the Vasundhara Raje government in Rajasthan.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje had written to the PM, seeking a 4 - 6 percent separate ST reservations for the Gujjars. According to sources, she argued that the 27% OBC quota enjoyed by the Gujjars could be reduced to compensate for new quota. The Prime Minister has already discussed the matter with his cabinet colleagues and referred Raje's letter to the Law Ministry.
