Euro 2008: Spain ends 44-year drought to win the Crown

It was a historic moment for Spain, as the country became the king of Europe after beating Germany 1-0 in the grand finale of Euro 2008. Fernando Torres' solitary goal gave Spain their first major trophy win in the last 44 years. Germany fought hard, but could not beat Spain that extended their winning streak to 22 matches in a row.

The last time Spain had won the Euro Cup was in 1964. Then they had beaten the erstwhile USSR to win the crown. Although Spain reached the final in 1984, they lost to France 2-0. The entire population of the country erupted in joy, when the referee blew the final whistle to endorse the Euro 2008 winner. David Villa, who missed out the final due to injury, won the Golden Boot award for scoring highest number of goals (4) in the tournament.
