Gujjar Women block rail traffic ahead of funeral of Firing Victims

The stand-off between the Rajasthan government and the agitating Gujjars may end soon, as postmortem on the victims killed in police firing was completed at Sikandara and Karwadi. The Gujjars had held on to the dead bodies and refused to allow any postmortem. The issue was resolved after several round of talks between the state government and Gujjar leaders and postmortem was conducted on Monday.

The funeral of the victims will be held today at Bayana, Sikandara and Sawai Madhopur. Ahead of the funeral, the Gujjar women have blocked the railway traffic, as a mark of protest against the police firing that left more than 40 people dead in Rajasthan. They held placards demanding ST status for the Gujjars. All trains passing through Rajasthan have been cancelled and heavy security arrangements have been made to prevent any untoward incident during the funeral procession.
