Gujjars end agitation, as Rajasthan Govt. agrees to 5% Special Quota
The stalemate between the agitating Gujjars and the Rajasthan government finally came to an end after a dialogue between Gujjar leader K S Bainsla and Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje Scindia at Jaipur. The Rajasthan government has agreed to a 5% special reservation for the Gujjars, Banjaras and Rewaris. The special reservation will exclude the existing OBC quota meant for the above communities including Gujjars. That means, they will be able to extract double benefits from the reservation. However, the Vasundhara Raje did not agree to the initial demand of the Gujjars for a ST status. Both Gujjars and Rajasthan government will sign an official agreement on this regard later today.
Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and Gujjar leader K S Bainsla addressed a joint press conference to announce the decision. K S Bainsla called it a "historic victory" for the Gujjars and gave full credit to CM Vasundhara Raje Scindia for ending the deadlock. He also apologized for the inconvenience caused to public. Bainsla will go to Pilupura where he will formally end the Gujjar agitation.
