Left issues threat to UPA on Nuke Deal, Lalu supports

The UPA and Left are ready for a bitter showdown on the much publicized Indo-US Nuclear deal. While the Left categorically said that it would not support the Nuke deal in any form and may consider withdrawing support to the UPA government at the centre, if it goes ahead with the bill without the Left consent, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has supported the government on this issue. He even wanted the government to go ahead with the bill without Left support.

There is no consensus among the UPA partners over the Indo-US Nuke deal. The DMK has urged the Congress to take the Left parties into confidence before signing the agreement, but supported the deal. Yesterday's crucial meeting between the UPA and Left was postponed till June 25 at the last minute. It could turn out to be an acid test for Dr. Mamnmohan Singh in the coming weeks.

Left's belief that UPA govt stands on its support & it has got the capacity to dethrone UPA is correct. But it is only one sided vew.The other side of it is that Left has got an oppartunity to join the nation building activity alongwith UPA for the first time. Wisdom of the parties lie in rating the performance of the govt and if it sees that the govt, in its view, has scored atleast 40 marks out 100 should consider it as pass mark and continue its support. But if it has got assurance from non UPA parties to join their govt then Left parties can go ahead.
