Sonia asks Congress-ruled States to cut Sales Tax on Petrol, Diesel

Shell-shocked over the widespread protests against the UPA government over the fuel price hike, Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has asked all Congress-ruled states to cut sales tax on petrol and diesel so that the fuel price hike could be minimized.

Congress-ruled Maharashtra and Left-ruled West Bengal have already announced a cut in sales tax on petrol and diesel. Even the Prime Minister had urged the state governments to reduce the sales tax on petrol and diesel during his address to the nation.
