Torrential Rain plays havoc in Orissa, West Bengal
Torrential rain continued to play havoc in several parts of West Bengal and Orissa for the third consecutive day. Several villages and towns in coastal Orissa remained cut off from the rest of the state. Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts are the worst affected. The incessant rains triggered flash floods in rivers Budhabalanga, Subarnarekha, Brahmani and Baitarani. The water levels of Jalaka in Balasore and Jambhira in Mayurbhanj have crossed the danger mark.Thousands of people in Orissa and West Bengal have been stranded due to heavy rain and floods. Rail and road traffic have come to complete halt in most parts of coastal Orissa. Several trains have been cancelled. The situation is feared to worsen further, as the Met department has predicted more rain in the next 48 hours.
