Violent Protests continue in Kashmir, Centre remains mute

The violence continued unabated in Jammu & Kashmir over the forest land allotment to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. Even as the Valley continues to burn for the sixth consecutive days, the Centre has preferred to remain a mute spectator to the developments. Although J&K is a sensitive state from India's point of view, not a single word has come out from the UPA government at the Centre.

It seems that UPA government is only worried about its own stability in the wake of threats and warnings from Left parties. Neither PM Manmohan Singh nor Home Minister Shivraj Patil has reacted to the violent agitation that has taken a communal shape.

If some radical parties take advantage of the situation and play the communal card, the entire country will be on the boil and it will be tough for the government to protect the minorities elsewhere in the country. It's high time the UPA government wake up and take appropriate action to contain the violence and resolve the impasse.
