14 MPs including 8 from BJP voted for UPA Government
While the BJP did not try to poach any MP from the Congress or its allies, the UPA convinced at least eight BJP MPs to switch sides and vote for the government during the trust vote. The UPA government got 275 votes, which included 14 votes from opposition. Eight BJP, 2 TDP, 1 BJD and 1 JD(S) MPs voted for the UPA government. Two JD (U) MPs also reportedly voted for the government.The BJP was the worst affected, it could not control its MPs. While eight MPs voted for the government, two BJP MPs abstained from voting. The BJP MPs, who voted against the government were Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Chandrabhan Singh, Babubhai Katara, Somabhai Patel, TS Sangliyan, Haribhan Rathore, Manorama and Manju Nath.
One Akali MP too abstained from voting. He has been asked by the party to explain his conduct. The JD(S) rebel MP Shivanna too voted for the UPA government. BJD MP Harihar Swain, who voted for UPA, has been expelled from the party by Orissa CM Naveen Patnaik. TDP also suspended two MPs who voted in favour of the government. Shiv Sena has decided to take strong action against its MP Tukaram Renge Patil, who abstained from voting.
