Cold Response to Bandh Against Ashram Boys'Death
By Sindhu Nair - Staff WriterThe state-wide bandh called by the Jagega Gujarat Sangharsh Samiti (JGSS) in association with 15 social groups in relationship to the mysterious deaths of two boys Dipesh and Abhishek residing in Asaram Bapu Ashram got a mixed response in Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat remained unaffected.
In Jamalpur, Gandhi road, Ratan Pol, Manek Chowk, Kalupur, Khadia, Panch Kuva, and Dariapur, the life came to a standstill due to the bandh, but in the Saurashtra-Kutch region, central, northern, and south Gujarat normal life remained unaffected. Schools and colleges in the Ahmedabad city remained closed as a precautionary measure.
Police had also made security arrangements in the city as well as in the Asaram Bapu’s Ashram in Motra and other sensitive areas of Nirnavnagar in Ranip and Sabarmati areas where the two boys lived, in view of the bandh. The boy’s parents and JGSS have demanded CBI inquiry on the deaths of the two boys, whose bodies were found on the banks of the Sabarmati River on July 5th, 5 km away from Motra Ashram where they studied.
