G8 Leaders meet at Hokkaido, express concern over rising Oil and Food Prices

The G8 leaders held crucial talks on the second day of their annual summit at Toyako in Hokkaido islands, Japan. The leaders expressed concerns over the sharp rise in oil and food prices and assured to increase aid to Africa. They also agreed on a long-term reduction target of greenhouse gases.

The key leaders who attended the G8 summit were Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, US President George W. Bush, Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.
