Heavy Rain plays havoc in Mumbai, Life comes to a standstill, 3 Dead

The ghost of July 10, 2006 is back to haunt to Mumbaikars on the first day of July 2008. Heavby rain lashed Mumbai and its outskirts early morning, bringing the normal life to a complete halt. The monsoon rain submerged several parts of the city. The scene is terrific which reminds us about "Water...Water...Everywhere". In just three hours in the morning, Mumbai witnessed 90 mm rain.

All road and rail transport operations have been suspended. The flights have been delayed by hours. There are chaos all over Mumbai. The BMC Commissioner has urged the Mumbaikars not to venture out of their home unless there is an urgency. By doing us, he indirectly admitted BMC's failure in tackling the situation that has arisen because of heavy rain. The BMC's hollow claims have been exposed before the public today. At least three people are reportedly killed in a building collapse.

Many slums and big building have been submerged. Even Amitabh Bachchan's bunglow 'Jalsa' in posh Juhu area is not left. According to latest reports, a high tide is expected around 5 PM today. It may aggravate the situation further. High alert has been issued across Mumbai. Power supply has been temporarily suspended so that people do not get electrocuted by live wires. Malad, Mulund, Dadar, Warli, Navi Mumbai and some other parts of Mumbai are worst affected.
