J&K Government revokes Amarnath Land Transfer Order, Violent Protests in Jammu

Bowing to the pressure from the Muslim majority in Kashmir, Congress government in Jammu & Kashmir has formally revoked the Amarnath land transfer order with immediate effect. Possession of the disputed land has been given to State Tourism Ministry. After the state government took control of Amarnath Yatra, the revocation of land transfer order remained a mere formality.

Meanwhile, Jammu continued to simmer for the second consecutive days amid violent protests and agitations. BJP, VHP and other Hindu nationalist parties are spearheading the protest. At least three protesters were injured in police firing. The mob went berserk in several places. They even brutally assaulted some police personnel after dragging them from Army's secure custody. Normal traffic have come to a complete halt and shops remained closed.

The agitation is likely to intensify further, as the government has issued a formal order, revoking the land transfer. Section 144 has been imposed in Jammu to contain the mob violence. The VHP has declared a Bharat Bandh on July 03 to protest against the revocation of Amarnath land transfer order.
